GUEST SPEAKER: A tale of two islands – Moving seabirds from the Chathams to Mana

Our guest speaker is Graeme Taylor from DOC, an expert in seabird translocation work. He recently travelled to the Chathams to prepare the way for moving white-faced storm petrel chicks to Mana Island in the future. This FOMI-led trip included FOMI president Brian Bell and seabird expert Cathy Mitchell. The rugged Chatham Islands have an abundance of seabirds. The story of how the petrel chicks will be selected and relocated, highlights the challenges and the rewards of this ambitious translocation project. Graeme’s talk will also showcase the diverse wildlife and scenery of Rangatira Island, best known as a home to black robins.

Election of new FOMI president

FOMI’s President Brian Bell is moving to Nelson, and is standing down as president. Nominations will be called at the AGM.
